From Career Break to World Trek: A Millennial's Journey Across 4 Continents

Updated: Jan 10

PART 2

As a 26-year-old woman with a lifelong passion for travel, the opportunity to embark on an international journey in 2023 became irresistible. This chance aligned seamlessly with my previous job concluding, coinciding with an invitation from my close friend, Camila Faria, to join her on an extended-stay trip to Puerto Escondido, Mexico, in August.

Jeep Excursion, Mt Batur Volcano in Bali, Indonesia. Alexandra and Camila.

Initially hesitant to take a break from work and shift my focus from job hunting, the realization that this was a unique opportunity to travel with one of my best friends and support her as an international content creator, personal marketer, businesswoman, and digital nomad persuaded me to seize the moment.

My journey to Mexico evolved into one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life, prompting me to extend my travels for an additional three months across Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia, before returning to the United States for the holidays.

Never did I imagine that a decision to go to Mexico would lead to a four-month global adventure, but, as they say, you can never underestimate the power of one decision. This journey exposed me to unique cultural experiences that I’ll forever be grateful for.

Some things I learned in the last 6 months:

  • Your 20’s is in fact an opportune time to explore what the world has to offer. Time is invaluable.

  • A job does not define you.

  • Your vision of success is defined by YOU.

  • Time off work is not the end of the world.

  • Side hustles are your best friend (and saving your money, always pays off!)

  • Surfing is a very fun sport.

Here are a few photos from my incredible journey!
